The cost of maintenance tasks generally rose nearly 7% in the year to 1Q2023 but there are considerable differences between trades.
The BCIS Building Maintenance Prices data set has been revised and updated for 2023, giving construction professionals across the UK a key source of maintenance cost data for the FM sector.
The new dataset shows inflation in maintenance work has generally risen by 6.8% in the first quarter of 2023, compared to the same period last year due to the resource costs increase. However, the picture is not the same across all trades. Some trades have seen cost movement outside of this range, underlining the importance of using up-to-date datasets to ensure accurate cost estimates. For example, the rates for plumbing works increased around 8.7%.
The latest edition of the BCIS Maintenance Price Estimating dataset accounts for all changes to resource costs up to January 2023. Several new items are included:
